Bond set for driver in Anderson Christmas parade charged with DUI

(Columbia-AP) December 6, 2006 - A mother on a Christmas parade float says it's high-speed ride down Main Street in Anderson was "sheer terror."

Erika Moore was on the float with her four-year-old daughter. She says the driver, who is charged with DUI, told her it was a great day for a parade before he took off.

Bond was set at $50,000 Tuesday for 42-year-old David Allen Rodgers. He was charged with drunken driving, 18 counts of kidnapping and about two dozen other charges.

Police think Rodgers became frustrated that he had to wait in line at the end of Sunday's parade, so he pulled the truck and trailer around another float and sped off.

Witnesses say the man ran a red light and a few stop signs and jumped some train tracks, while a parent on the float called 911 on a cell phone.
