Bush: 'Nothing less than victory' acceptable in Iraq

(Riga, Latvia-AP) November 28, 2006 - President Bush is vowing he won't pull US forces from Iraq before they succeed.

Speaking in Latvia, where NATO leaders are gathering for a summit, Bush says the US will be "flexible" and make the changes necessary to succeed.

But he says the war on terror transcends a military conflict. He calls it an ideological struggle in which "nothing less than victory" is acceptable.

Bush is also telling NATO allies that Afghanistan is their "most important military operation." He says the alliance has recognized the threat from what he calls a "long struggle against terrorists and extremists" trying to set up a "totalitarian empire."

The president also says NATO has a responsibility to support moderate reformers in the Mideast.
