Man charged with murder in Lee County shooting

(Lee County) October 6, 2006 - There was a double shooting in Lee County overnight, and before one of the victims died, she revealed key information in the case.

The shooting happened about five miles outside of Bishopville.

Thursday night around 9:00, the Lee County Sheriff's Department responded to Janice Court in response to a domestic call.  When they arrived they found both Regina Holloman, 32, and her mother, Mary Lou Holloman, had been shot.

Regina Holloman had been sitting at home with her mother. Then, Holloman's boyfriend came home. Major Daniel Simon says, "He was drinking, highly intoxicated and started arguing with her, and brandished a gun and started shooting."

Authorities say 45-year-old Bruce Thomas kept shooting. Regina Holloman tried to hide in a closet, but she couldn't escape multiple shots to the chest.

Officials say Thomas wasn't done. According to Major Simon, "He shot her, came back and shot the mother. By the grace of God, the child wasn't shot."

The child was Holloman's nephew. Authorities say the boy, only two or three-years-old, witnessed the entire incident that killed his Aunt Regina.

According to authorities, Regina was able to identify the shooter as Thomas before she died.

Holloman's mother was also shot, her condition unknown.

As for Thomas, authorities didn't have to go far to find him, says Major Simon. "He walked into Richland County's Sheriff's Office on Two Notch Road and turned himself in and said he was involved in the shooting."

Thomas faces murder charges, as well as assault and battery charges with intent to kill.

Thomas is being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
