Lexington police chief arrested on CDV charges

(Columbia) September 29, 2006 - WIS News 10 has learned that Chief Stace Day of the Lexington Police Department was arrested early Friday morning by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department on criminal domestic violence charges.

Chief Day was taken into custody shortly before 3am and charged with criminal domestic violence after what an incident report indicates was an argument with his wife that went on for hours.

Day appeared Friday morning before a magistrate at the Lexington County Detention Center.

The sheriff's department says the dispute began Thursday afternoon when Day got home from work.

According to her mother, who filed the report, Laurie Day was packing clothes for herself and their children and making plans to leave.

The report says Stace Day disabled the truck in the backyard, took his wife's drivers license, credit cards, checks, her jewelry and broke her cell phone so she could not make calls. The report stated he also broke the victims cell phone so she could not make calls.

Later, the report says Stace Day threw his wife to the floor twice, the second time, knocking her out. The next thing she remembered, according to the report, was having water thrown in her face and hearing Day make the statement, "She's only faking, your mamma is such a drama queen."

The report says the victim remembers getting water thrown in her face, an episode allegedly witnessed by the couple's daughter.

Laurie Day's mother says the front door of the house had been broken in.

The victim is said to have bruises on her leg and arm.

Also from the report, Laurie Day is quoted as saying she believed her husband would kill her, and that he told her several times, "It doesn't matter where you go, I will find you, you know I have friends in high places, you can't hide from me."

Day has been chief for a little more than two years. He's been with the Lexington Police Department for about 17 years. Captain Terrence Green is taking over as acting chief.

Day was scheduled for a bond hearing at 8am Friday morning at the Lexington County Detention Center. WIS has learned Day appeared before a Lexington County judge and was released after meeting a $2,500 surety bond. He is prohibited from having contact with his wife.
