Flooding threatens Shealy's Bar-B-Que in Batesburg-Leesville

(Batesburg-Leesville) August 30, 2006 - Flooding in the Batesburg-Leesville area Wednesday night threatened a favorite Midlands barbecue spot.

A section of Highway One near East Columbia Avenue was closed Wednesday due to the flooding. That's where Shealy's Bar-B-Que is.

Roger Williamson's wife works at Shealy's. While driving home, his phone rang. "When my wife called me from work and said 'We have water in the restaurant, come down here,' I knew something was up."

Williamson soon found himself wading through the parking lot Wednesday evening. The area got five inches of rain in less than an hour.

And it wasn't just the torrential rain causing problems. "Lightning was dancing off everything we had in town," says Police Chief Wallace Oswald. Damage to trees and power outages resulted.
