Bomb blast near presidential palace in Kabul

(Kabul, Afghanistan-AP) July 4, 2006 - At least ten people were hurt Tuesday when a bomb went off in front of a movie theater near the presidential palace in the Afghan capital.

The blast in Kabul shattered windows at the theater and the nearby Justice Ministry. That's about 200 yards from the heavily fortified official residence of President Hamid Karzai.

Police say a bomb had been planted in a hand cart behind a car.

Meantime, militants killed five Afghan laborers bringing construction supplies to a US military base in eastern Afghanistan.

A police official says he suspects Taliban militants in the attack and that the laborers were targeted because they worked at an American base.

Resurgent Taliban attacks have raised concerns about Afghanistan's shaky stability.
