New US attorney Lloyd discusses gangs

(Greenville-AP) March 14, 2006 - South Carolina's new US attorney says gang members are like cockroaches. Reginald Lloyd told nearly 700 law enforcement officials in Greenville Monday that if one gang member is found there are likely to be others.

Officers from 14 states met to discuss the growth of gangs and gang-related crimes.

Greenville Sheriff Steve Loftis says gangs have infiltrated even the smallest communities. He says gang membership has no boundaries and crosses socioeconomic lines.

The three-day conference is sponsored by the Regional Organized Crime Information Center and will allow agencies to exchange information and policies for coping with gangs.
