Hadley says Bush supports delay of ports deal

(Washington-AP) February 26, 2006 - President Bush's national security adviser says the president supports efforts to delay the takeover of major operations at six US ports by a United Arab Emirates company.

Stephen Hadley says that it's clear that members of Congress need more time to understand the purchase, which has generated questions from both parties about security, but Hadley says that once Congress better understands the transaction, they'll see it's "the right thing to do." He says the deal must go forward.

Hadley spoke on CNN and CBS.

It is possible a new review of the purchase could include an intensive 45-day investigation into national security issues, which wasn't done the first time.

Democratic Senator Joe Biden tells "Fox News Sunday" the deal needs to be reviewed because "all allies aren't created equal."
