(Lake County, Florida) December 28, 2005 - A website confession landed a Florida teenager in prison.
19-year-old Blake Ranking entered court in Lake County, outside Orlando, on Wednesday and was sentenced to five years behind bars. He'd confessed on a web log to causing a deadly car accident that killed his lover in 2004.
A drunk Ranking was sitting in the back seat and wrote that he grabbed the steering wheel, causing the crash. 17-year-old Jason Coker, a front-seat passenger, died.
Ranking pleaded guilty last week to DUI manslaughter. Ranking apologized in court to Coker's parents, Coker's father agreed to the plea deal.
Ranking was sentenced to five years in prison and ten years probation. He can never get a driver's license.
After the accident, he told investigators that he didn't remember anything. But three days after the crash, he wrote on a weblog: "I did it. It was me who caused it. I turned the wheel...caused the car to flip seven times, crushing Jason."
