Arkansas elementary school loses three students

(Gravette, Ark.-AP) Dec. 1, 2005 - An elementary school in northwest Arkansas is struggling with the deaths of three students over two days.

On Tuesday, an eight- and a five-year-old died in a fire at their home. Then Wednesday, a second-grader collapsed in a physical education class and later died.

The school superintendent says Destiny Hicks passed out during a game of freeze tag. She was flown by helicopter to a hospital after a school nurse and emergency medical responders couldn't revive her.

The county coroner says officials don't know why she died, saying the girl "just collapsed."

Grief counselors were already at Glenn Duffy Elementary School to deal with the other two deaths when the girl collapsed.

Investigators say the fire that killed Kayla and Jacob Ratledge Tuesday appears to have been an accident.
