Cayce police looking for extreme motorcyclist who got away during chase

(Cayce) Nov. 30, 2005 - Cayce police say the biker has taunted them and led them on a high speed chase that ended with a serious crash. But the bike rider seems to be one of those who gets a rush out of taking chances on two wheels.

It started when an officer saw a black sport bike heading down Knox Abbott Drive, the front wheel in the air, the rider standing on the seat.

Lt. Jeff Simmons of Cayce Public Safety, "This is a first for us in this particular situation."

A high-speed chase began. That brought in more cops. At 10th and M avenue, one of the patrol cars slammed into another vehicle.

There were no serious injuries, but the police car was totaled, and they still haven't caught up with the suspect.

Police may have actually had three separate encounters with the biker, one of them near the Solectron Plant at Columbia Metro Airport.

Police say the biker drove by them doing a wheelie in what appeared to the officers to be a deliberate attempt to goad them into a chase.

Lt. Simmons says, "A passing motorist would just pass by and not see us very long. This guy would have had to seen us, turn around and come back and actually pull his wheelie and go by us. And he was staring us straight in the face when he did it."

Police say the bike, in addition to being black, might have black primer on it. The male rider, wearing a black jacket, black pants and a black and red helmet.

The department is hoping someone will provide more specific information, maybe even turn the motorcyclist in.

Lt. Simmons wants the biker arrested, "In this particular situation we'd like to catch this individual because it's unique."
