Extra officers were called to a Wal-Mart store Friday morning in Renton, Washington. They were needed to help control crowds of shoppers who pushed their way into the electronics department shortly after the doors opened.
The shoppers knocked counters out of position as they fought over a limited supply of laptop computers.
At a suburban Cleveland Wal-Mart, one man says it got "a little rough" when shoppers flooded the electronics aisles and battled for discounted items. Another man in the store says it was a typical day after Thanksgiving, with people "pushing and bumping."
Retailers hope the big crowds set a positive tone for the entire holiday season.
