Blown tire cause of I-26 car hauler fire that disrupted traffic Friday

(Columbia) Nov. 5, 2005 - Traffic came to a standstill on I-26 westbound near exit 108 on Friday evening as emergency crews battled a truck fire.

The car hauler had a mechanical problem, the driver says he noticed some smoke in the cab and jumped out and tried to get help.

The highway patrol says a blown tire is what caused the flames. Firefighters estimate there's $500,000 in damages, no one was hurt and and no other vehicles involved.

The hauler is owned by Wagener Trucking Company.
