US District Judge Thomas Hogan has been threatening to jail Time White House correspondent Matthew Cooper for contempt, for refusing to disclose sources. Officials are investigating the leak of a CIA officer's name. A reporter for The New York Times has also been refusing to turn over notes and faces jail in the case.
The Supreme Court this week refused to hear an appeal from the reporters. Time's editor-in-chief says the court order will limit the ability of reporters to do their job, but Norman Pearlstine tells CNN he's "not comfortable" claiming that reporters are above the law.
A statement from the publisher of The New York Times says the newspaper is now focusing on its own reporter and "supporting her during this difficult time."
