(Raleigh-AP) May 10, 2005 - Former vice presidential nominee John Edwards agreed Tuesday to help strengthen the Democratic presence in state legislatures by recruiting candidates and raising money.
Edwards will help raise money for Democratic legislative caucuses in eight states including South Carolina. Edwards says much of the important work on issues Americans face every day is done in the states not Washington, DC.
The former North Carolina senator joined the ticket of Senator John Kerry last year. But North Carolina Republican Party chairman Ferrell Blount says Democratic candidates choose not to link themselves to Edwards. He says voters rejected Edwards' message during the election and will reject candidates Edwards recruits and helps.
