Wilmington museum evacuated when cannonball in exhibit found to be live

(Wilmington, North Carolina) May 11, 2004 - A museum in Wilmington, North Carolina, got an unexpected surprise Tuesday.

It all began when a local contractor donated a Civil War cannonball to the Cape Fear Museum. What the man didn't know was that the cannonball was still active.

When museum workers realized it, a bomb squad was called in and at least 70 people about were evacuated from the building.

The cannonball was taken to a bunker at the police station where experts will try to diffuse the bomb.
