Darla Moore donates record $45 million to School of Business

(Columbia-AP) April 23, 2004 - University of South Carolina graduate Darla Moore is making another big gift to the school. The financier on Friday gave $45 million to the Moore School of Business .

It's the largest gift the school has ever received.

Moore gave the school $25 million in 1998, the largest gift at that time. USC renamed its business school for Moore then.

USC officials say her $70 million total contribution is the largest private gift received by a business school in the United States.

Moore has asked the University to match the $45 million donation. USC President Andrew Sorenson says $30 million of the match will come from private funds, with the rest coming from public sources.

Half of the money will be used for endowments. The other half will be used to renovate the Business Administration building for modern technology.

Moore is executive vice president or Rainwater Incorporated, one of the nation's largest private investment firms.
