(Crawford, Texas-AP) March 6, 2004 - President Bush is defending his economic record, a day after new government figures showing job growth remains at a snail's pace.
John Kerry seized on Friday's figures to say Bush's tax-cutting economics aren't working.
But the president says the economy is strong and getting stronger and that will ultimately make employment grow. He spoke at a news conference at his Texas ranch with Mexico's visiting president.
The new numbers show just 21,00 net new jobs created in February and no net new jobs in the private sector.
Bush says the issue voters must consider is whose plan would be best. Kerry wants to scrap high-income-bracket tax cuts as a way of cutting the deficit. But Bush declares: "Raising taxes will make it harder for people to find work."
