CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV/AP) - The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office says it is dropping all charges against six men accused in a shootout involving rapper Waka Flocka Flame.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the six men approached the rapper's tour bus at the Car Stereo Warehouse along East Independence Boulevard in mid-February and shots were fired.
Police say shots were exchanged between at least one of the gunmen and Flame's security entourage after several men tried to take some of Waka Flocka Flame's jewelry.
Prosecutors say they are dropping the charges because none of the witnesses were able to identify any of the shooters and there was no evidence of an attempted robbery. The District Attorney's office told WBTV that they were not consulted when police officers arrested the six men.
"I wasn't happy about dismissing charges against those suspects with long criminal records," said Murray. He said, in this case, it was justice because the evidence was not strong enough to convict.
He said the investigation was not able to prove who fired shots first, and for what reason.
The group had faced charges that include attempted armed robbery, conspiracy and discharging a gun into occupied property.
Waka Flocka Flame's real name is Juaquin Malphurs.
