PEAK, SC (WIS) - Animal rescue workers are asking for your help finding a dog running loose near an exit on Interstate 26 after being involved in a car crash over the weekend.

Project Pet said Chance, a white boxer, escaped after his sitter wrecked at mile marker 99 near the Peak exit Sunday morning. Authorities said the sitter is fine, but another dog, Lilly, was killed in the crash. "It's just so heartbreaking, I don't know what to do," said owner Summer Slaughter. "I feel lost right now."

Summer, who raised 3-year-old Lily from birth, buried the Border Collie/Great Pyrenees mix in her backyard. "I don't have children, so these are my children," said Slaughter. "I miss her a lot."

Summer believes Chance is wandering around in the woods somewhere, and hopes he will make it back to the crash site. "I know he's ready to be home, but he'll miss his sister," said Slaughter.

Chance does not have tags, according to Project Pet, but may be wearing a South Carolina collar which his owners bought at Bark to the Park on Saturday. The owners said Chance is very friendly, but is probably very scared.

Project Pet asked anyone with information to call 803-429-3167.
