(Washington, DC) Aug. 28, 2003 - Experts are investigating why animals are dying at the National Zoo in Washington.
A Congressionally-appointed panel met on Wednesday to discuss the issue. The meeting was the first of several scheduled meetings.
Lawmakers created the panel after a string of deaths at the zoo, including two rare red pandas, a zebra, a lion and a bald eagle.
The group is focusing on whether the government gives the facility enough funding to take care of the rare animals it houses.
