COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The University of South Carolina football team is back at work.
The players hit the practice field for the first time since the SEC Championship game earlier this month. The Gamecocks are getting ready to return to Atlanta and meet Florida State in the Chick-Fil-A bowl on New Year's Eve.
They've had nearly two weeks to put the 39 point loss to Auburn behind them. The players say it was good for healing physically and mentally, and they're ready to put on a much better show for the fans.
"When we lose, we take it to the heart because we take football seriously," says defensive back Akeem Auguste, "It's what we do. It's our job. We go out there and disappoint everybody, play like we're not supposed to, and perform like we're not supposed to -- it looks bad on us."
"The Auburn game is behind us now, and we're looking forward to Florida State," says defensive end Cliff Matthews, "Like I said, we've got a lot of work to do."
