COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Gov. Mark Sanford's cabinet directors have a chance to reflect on what their agencies have done for South Carolina.

Tuesday marked the final cabinet meeting of the Republican governor's two terms. Gov.-elect Nikki Haley will be sworn into office next month.

Sanford asked cabinet members to highlight what their agencies have done to improve the lives of South Carolinians.

Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor said a "phenomenal" number of jobs will be available in the next couple of years. Taylor praised the whole cabinet for helping him sell the state.

South Carolina's jobless rate has been persistently high during Sanford's tenure. It was 10.7 percent in October, the most recent report available. But Taylor says South Carolina led the Southeast in job recruitment last year and had its best year in 2008.

He says large plants soon to be built include Boeing's 787 assembly plant in North Charleston and ZF Group's transmission plant in Laurens County.

The meeting comes a day after Haley made her first cabinet pick. The Republican chose BMW spokesman and former newspaper editor Bobby Hitt to lead the state Commerce Department. The Senate must still confirm him.

The cabinet consists of 15 agency heads who report to the governor.

Starting on Tuesday's News at 6, we'll take a look back at Governor Sanford's eight years in office. Jody Barr recently sat down the governor for nearly an hour to reflect on his administration's highs and lows and what he plans to do with his future.
