SC mayor arrested for stealing gas

VARNVILLE, SC (WIS) - A South Carolina mayor in Hampton County is in hot water for stealing from his town.

66-year-old Henry Fields was arrested Thursday for charging almost $2000.00 worth of gasoline to the town of Varnville, but putting it in his personal vehicle, according to SLED. Fields is the mayor of Varnville.

According to the arrest warrant, Fields filled up his personal pick-up truck dozens of times from May 2009 to May 2010 using the town's gasoline charge tickets.

Fields has been charged with misconduct in office. There is no word on Fields' status as mayor.

SLED investigated this case at the request of the Town of Varnville.
