Alvin Greene reportedly considering run for president

COLUMBIA, SC (WBTV) - Nearly a week after his failed run for the United States Senate, Alvin Greene is reportedly eyeing his next political run: President of the United States.

According to Politico, the unemployed military veteran is mulling around the idea of running for president.

The once unknown candidate who made national news during his run for Senate reportedly called the South Carolina Democratic Party to ask how much it would cost to run for president.

Politico says it confirmed that Greene called the state party on Tuesday to ask about the fee.

Spokeswoman Keiana Page told Politico that someone who did not identify himself called asking about the fee for a presidential filing.

Greene never even met the $5,000 threshold required for reporting to the Federal Election Commission for his run for U.S. Senate.

Greene ended his candidacy last Tuesday night in a nearly empty banquet room in South Carolina after an overwhelmingly loss to Republican Senator Jim DeMint.

During his campaign he accused DeMint of starting the recession, suggested he could end the recession with action figures of himself, and debuted a new comic book "The Ultimate Warrior" which is about himself.

Greene, who lives with his father, surprised his party with an upset primary win over a former state lawmaker in June.

He is in the middle of a felony obscenity charge court battle. He's accused of showing pornography to a University of South Carolina student and is scheduled to appear in court on that charge next Tuesday.
