LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) - Lexington County Sheriff's Department detectives are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Lexington man, who was shot and killed on Saturday, while he drove his car on Calks Ferry Road near Lexington.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said detectives on Sunday, October 10 were interviewing persons who have information about the killing of William L. Calhoun, 20. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.

At 11:22 p.m. on Saturday, a sheriff's deputy arrived on scene to investigate the death of Calhoun, whose body was found in a gray Ford Mustang that crashed in woods off Calks Ferry Road near the intersection with Cheryse Drive, Metts said. Lexington County Emergency Medical Services personnel pronounced Calhoun dead at the scene of the crash. The Ford Mustang was registered to Calhoun.

Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harman said that preliminary autopsy results show that Calhoun died within minutes of being shot in the chest around 10:50 p.m. Saturday.  Harman ruled the death a homicide.

A homeowner reported the motor vehicle crash to the Lexington County Communications Center after seeing the Ford Mustang in woods off Calks Ferry Road, Metts said.

Investigators believe this was not a random act and that Calhoun may have known his killer.
