FBI: Former soldier threatened to kill President Obama

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Hinesville man accused of taking hostages at Fort Stewart is expected to make his first appearance before a federal judge on Wednesday in Savannah.

Robert Anthony Quinones, 29, is being held on charges in connection with assault of a federal officer, kidnapping, threatening to kill President Barack Obama and a former president.

Quinones, a former soldier, is accused of going to the Winn Community Army Hospital at about 4 a.m. Monday with two handguns, an MP-5 assault rifle and an AR-15 assault rifle.

According BG Jeffrey Phillips, he was demanding behavior healthcare and grabbed a medic and took her up to the third floor, where behavioral healthcare is provided. Phillips said the former soldier took two more hostages. 

Based on comments made later to investigators, Quinones is also being charged with threatening the life of a current and former U.S. President, according to an FBI news release.

Quinones was stationed at Fort Benning from 2008 to 2009. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion 29th Infantry Regiment of the 197th Infantry Brigade.
