COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Palmetto Health says due to "tight economic times," they'll be shutting down their on-site child care facility, Palmetto Health Child Development Center, at the Richland campus.
The hospital says a recent cost analysis of maintaining the facility lead them to close the center. Ninety-three children will be affected by the closing and 54 of them are kids of Palmetto Health employees.
To soften the blow, Palmetto Health officials say they are partnering with Bright Horizons to help parents find other arrangements for their kids. They'll also be providing $1,000 in assistance.
"We understand that the closure of the daycare affects families and children and that's difficult for everyone—the Palmetto Health family and the families we have served," said Trip Gregory, senior vice president of Human Resources, in a statement. "However, in tight economic times, we have to evaluate every program to ensure we are being fiscally responsible while concentrating on our primary services."
