COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - University of South Carolina Gamecock basketball player Dominique Archie is out indefinitely with a sprained right knee.
That news is considerably better than what was expected after Archie was taken out of the championship game at the Charleston Classic against Miami.
The senior forward came down awkwardly after going in for a dunk early in the first half.
Without Archie, the Gamecocks suffered their first loss of the season at 85-70.
"Dominique Archie is one of the hardest working players I've coached and I'm confident he will work just as hard in his rehabilitation with this injury as he does on the court," Coach Darrin Horn said. "As a family, this is a time when we will pull together and continue to work toward our goals in his absence."
Archie is the team's second leading scorer, averaging 14 points per game, and leads the Gamecocks with six rebounds per game.
Horn says doctors will re-evaluate him at a later date.
