WIS News 10 - Columbia, South Carolina | Atlantic Beach overturns council election results

ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Atlantic Beach Election Commission says it will start back at square one, hoping a second town council election will dissolve the controversy surrounding the Nov. 3 results.

Carolyn Cole and Windy Price defeated Charlene Taylor and Josephine Isom for their respective council seats.

However, Isom, Taylor and Paul Curry all contested the votes, citing residential issues for their protests. The challengers also disputed the election results on claims absentee ballots were filed illegally.

"People would say there are a lot of problems in Atlantic Beach, but what they are really doing here is experimenting in Democracy," John Leiter, Josephine Isom-Taylor's lawyer said.

Cole, however, disagrees.

"The objective is to go to the next step that you hope will delay us being seated so they can continue to hold their seats," she explained.

Price says she will appeal the Atlantic Beach Election Commission's decision.

Both Price and Cole filed a civil suit against the challengers and the Election Commission on Thursday. No word, however, on when that case will be heard.
