Closing arguments given for 3 Hebrew Boys

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) — Lawyers have given closing arguments in the case of three South Carolina men accused of bilking investors out of more than $80 million.

Jurors are expected to begin deliberating Friday in the case against Timothy McQueen, Joseph Brunson and Tony Pough. The trio called themselves the "3 Hebrew Boys" after the biblical tale of brothers who survived an inferno because of their faith.

They face nearly 60 charges in federal court, including conspiracy, mail fraud and money laundering.

Prosecutors say the trio preyed on debt-plagued investors.

Defense attorneys say the three intended to honor the contracts or pay the money back. They said investors knew the risk.

If convicted, they could be sentenced to decades in prison and pay millions in fines.
