FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina high school football team which needed a judge's ruling to keep its postseason berth is going to court with hopes of continuing its chase for a state title.
The Fayetteville Observer reports that representatives of Terry Sanford High School will be in court on Monday to argue that the team deserves the chance to continue its run in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs.
A Cumberland County Superior Court judge met with lawyers for the players and the athletic association before issuing a ruling late Thursday.
Terry Sanford's team was ruled ineligible by the athletic association after the discovery of problems with a player's credits and attendance. After the team was restored to the playoffs, Terry Sanford defeated Pine Forest 48-29.
