COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The annual Families Helping Families phone bank begins on Monday, November 16 and runs through Wednesday, November 25. In today's tough economic times, WIS Television and Palmetto Project need your help more than ever. This year, Dodgeland of Columbia has joined us as a major corporate sponsor.
JT Gandolfo, President and Owner of Dodgeland, is encouraging the people of the Midlands to open their hearts to this year's drive. "As a business owner, I understand just how deeply the economy has impacted our community and our neighbors. I encourage everyone, especially other businesses, to be generous this year in support of Families Helping Families. It is an uplifting opportunity to help some of the least fortunate in our area."
For 2009, Families Helping Families is trying to assist 1,600 needy families and individuals during the holiday season. We also are looking for volunteers to help us in the effort help the less fortunate in our community.
During the phone bank, you can call 758-1020 to adopt a family between 9am and 8pm. Anyone can adopt a family -- individuals, families, community groups, church groups, businesses or schools. The recipient families were selected and nominated for the program earlier in the year from various agencies around the Midlands. Unfortunately, no additional families can be accepted into the program at this time.
Now in its 19th year, Families Helping Families provides assistance to as many needy families in our Midlands community (Richland, Lexington, Newberry and Fairfield Counties) as we can. Last year, the project was able to provide gifts for 1,600 families and individuals. Our distribution center was stuffed with packages and bicycles!
Palmetto Project has volunteer opportunities available at the WIS phone bank at our studio in downtown Columbia and at the gift distribution warehouse at the Parkland Plaza shopping center in Cayce.
