CHARLESTON, SC (WMBF) - A 30-year-old man has pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to kill a federal officer, U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins announced Tuesday.
Terrell L. Mallard, of Charleston, is accused of opening fire on Federal Task Force Officer Alan Ali, a Charleston County Deputy who was assigned to the U.S. Marshal Service, and North Charleston police officers James Roberts and Robert Burnem. The three officers, according to officials, were attempting to arrest Mallard on a bank robbery charge.
Officials say Mallard was hiding in a locked bathroom of the residence where the arrest took place when he began shooting, striking Ali. Roberts and Burnem returned fire, stroking Mallard until he disarmed himself.
Both Ali and Mallard were taken to an area hospital to receive treatment for their injuries.
Mallard entered a plea agreement where he agreed to a sentence of 30 years in prison. A sentencing date, Wilkins says, has not been determined. Mallard will remain in custody while he awaits sentencing.
