COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Richland County wants folks who have a criminal record to be able to get it cleared once they serve their time.
At Bible Way Church in Columbia, hundreds of folks showed up to figure out how to do just that.
The timing, organizers say, is important because of the economy. Folks need jobs, and sometimes they can't find one with a record.
And now, in our state, it's easier than ever to do.
Lawmakers passed a law to allow more people to expunge their records. The idea is to make it so they don't have to pay for the same crime over and over.
"There are a lot more cases that can be expunged than, say, May of this year," said Richland County Solicitor Barney Giese.
If you missed the informational meeting, have no fear. All you have to do is call the Richland County Solicitor's office at (803) 576-1850, and they will get you going on the paperwork.
