OLAR, SC (WIS) - The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is honoring an Olar volunteer firefighter who saved a 4-year-old's dog from an abandoned well last week.
The heartwarming rescue was documented in a WIS News 10 story, and gained national attention on NBC's Today Show.
Firefighter Dwight Williams climbed down a ladder more than 30 feet to retrieve Mollie and then carried her back up, much to the delight of her 4-year-old owner Olivia. In response, PETA gave Williams its "One Can Make a Difference" Award.
"Mollie and her family are lucky to live in a town that has volunteer firefighters who are so ready and willing to do whatever it takes when it comes to rescuing any individual in trouble," says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch.
Dwight Williams will receive a thank-you card signed by PETA staffers, a framed certificate, and a personalized copy of PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk's book One Can Make a Difference.
