Mother: Unknown man tried to abduct son, two others

EDISTO, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg County mother is looking for help in identifying a man she says tried to abduct her son and two others from Edisto Primary.

"I was terrified," said the mother, Cindy. "You hear of it happening because you hear of it happening in other places, but this is a small community, you just wouldn't think of it happening here."

The child says that when he left class to get picked up, a man he didn't know pulled up, opened his car door and told him and two others to get inside.

"We got into the grass and ran," he said. 

This is not the only incident like this one that was reported last week.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department says they are investigating a separate similar incident at the same school.

Sheriff Larry Williams says this is an ongoing investigation in the very early stages. He adds they are not releasing a description of the man or his car in the reported incidents.

Williams and deputies will meet Monday morning to discuss the case, but the incident has already frightened Cindy enough.

"I've shed many tears," said Cindy. "It was scary."

Cindy wants anyone's help getting the unknown man off the streets.

"I'm afraid the man might up his game at another school and say, this didn't work here and try something more enticing," said Cindy. "Next time we might not be as fortunate, another child may not be as fortunate."

Her son's intelligence may have saved three lives that day, and Cindy says she's thankful.

"Beyond thankful for every hug and every minute, because you just don't know," said Cindy.
