IRMO, SC (WIS) - An Irmo playground about to open may not have been built if not for the generosity of WIS News 10 viewers and the National Guard.
Last year the Wal-Mart in Ballentine donated extra dirt to Oak Pointe Elementary School, but the school didn't have the $80,000 it took to move it.
After hearing their plea on WIS News 10, the South Carolina National Guard and some local volunteers stepped in.
"It really is fulfilling feeling to have this field now and finally opened it will be able to be used for today and for many years to come," said Principal Jim Stephens.
Now that the field is done, the kids have pretty basic plans.
"Run around, play tag," one child said.
"I expect to play lots and lots of football and play tag and sweat," said student Braxton Carr.
It's good to know some things never go out of style.
"Thank you everybody that helped build this whole field," said student Allee Cobb.
