Shots fired at 3 Kershaw Co. deputies waiting for tow truck

CASSATT, SC (WIS) - An argument ended in gunshots early Saturday morning, and ended with a man shooting a shotgun at three Kershaw County deputies waiting for a tow truck.

29-year-old Wayne Thurman of Lancaster is charged with three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill, and 21-year-old Michael Scott Privette of Cassatt is charged with aggravated assault and destruction of property. It all stems from the incident deputies say happened at around 3:00am Saturday.

According to an incident report, Cody, Michael and Joseph Fitch, all of Cassatt, were outside their house when an argument started, involving Michael Privette, Joshua Privette and Thurman. The Fitches tell WIS News 10 they were not involved in the argument, and that it merely happened outside there house.

The report says Michael Privette told the Fitches he, Joshua and Thurman would come back with a gun. A little later, the Fitches said they heard gunshots outside their house.

Deputies found a spent green shotgun casing in the road, another near the Fitches' house, three spent black shotgun casings in the ditch, and a live black shotgun shell in the ditch. No damage to the Fitches' house was found.

At around 5:30am, deputies found a van on Porter Road that they determined to be involved in the shooting incident. The person at the address told deputies they weren't familiar with the van, and asked that it be towed away.

While deputies were waiting for the tow truck to arrive, someone fired a shotgun at them. Deputies found Thurman lying on the ground with a shotgun underneath him, and arrested Thurman. Deputies say the shotgun shell was the same type as the ones recovered from the Fitches' house.

At 8:00am the deputy returned to the Fitches' house and found three broken windows, for which the Privettes was charged.
