WIS News 10 - Columbia, South Carolina | Former volunteer Cardinal Newman coach arrested on solicitation charge

Michael Wayne RuckerCOLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Richland County deputies say they have arrested a former volunteer coach from Cardinal Newman High School for trying to solicit sex from a 14-year-old girl.
Authorities say 46-year-old Michael Wayne Rucker began calling and texting a 14-year-old Cardinal Newman High School student to solicit her for sex.
The girl's parents discovered the messages and reported the man to school officials.
The school and the Diocese of Charleston immediately began investigating and reported the incident to the Forest Acres Police Department.
Rucker, a former part-time high school assistant softball coach at Cardinal Newman School, was charged with criminal solicitation of a minor. His bond was set at $10,000 and he has already been released.
Rucker has been barred from serving in any capacity or participating in any program at Cardinal Newman and any Diocesan-sponsored activity involving minors.
