KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Investigators say a senior prank went too far and led to the vandalism of 26 Kershaw County school buses early Tuesday morning. More than 400 students were late to class due to the incident.

Three North Central High School seniors are charged: 18-year-olds Harrison Toney of Bethune, Nathaniel Jones of Kershaw and Darius Tyrell Kelly of Heath Springs.

Kelly's mother says she contacted the sheriff's department as soon as she found out they were looking for her son.

"'Get a good night's sleep, bring him in the morning,' 'but you're looking for him now, how am I supposed to go home and get a good night's rest and bring him in the morning,' how you supposed to rest as a parent?" said Greta Kelly-Nix. She accompanied her son as he turned himself in at the sheriff's department headquarters late Thursday night.

Kershaw County School Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan says the three might not be able to receive their diplomas. At least two of the teens were expected to go to college in the fall on scholarships.

Investigators say the three vandalized 26 buses early Tuesday morning, slashing 25 tires, drilling holes in the vehicles' coolant tanks and breaking headlights. Early estimates put damages at $16,000.

All three suspects have been released from jail after posting bond, set in each case at $25,000.
