CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has announced the identity of the driver who died in a collision involving four vehicles on Interstate 95 on Thursday night.
Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock said Marion Jerome Mack, 34, died from multiple blunt force trauma. According to Mock, Mack died on the eve of his 35th birthday and was in the process of moving from Columbia to Vance.
Officials said lanes were blocked for more than five hours beginning late Thursday night. I-95 southbound has since re-opened following a fatal collision between two vehicles and a tractor-trailer.
Lance Corporal David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed early Friday morning that there was a fatality in the collision which blocked this portion of I-95 through early Friday just before 4:30 a.m.
Officials said the accident happened around 8 p.m. Thursday about two miles north of SC Highway 6. It involved four vehicles. According to David Jones, a flatbed truck hit a Toyota Camry which struck the back of a 2003 Honda Accord. The Honda hit the back of a carhauler trailer which was being pulled by a Ford F-350. Mack, who was driving the Honda, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Drivers have reported being stuck behind this wreck the entire time the roadway has been closed.
