COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A World War II veteran and former state lawmaker was laid to rest on Sunday.
The Honorable Captain T. Moffatt Burriss served in World War II where he and his fellow Airborne rangers parachuted behind enemy lines to capture roads and bridges to clear the way for allied troops.
Burriss was also a published author and the first minority leader in the State House of Representatives.
He died on Jan. 4 at the age of 99. His funeral was held at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church in Chapin.
