OCSO: Orangeburg man arrested after ‘brutal’ attack fracturing woman’s face

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A 40-year-old Orangeburg man has been arrested after a woman suffered several facial fractures.

Officials with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said Ernest Stabler was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Stabler and the woman went to pick up Stabler’s friend from the hospital. The woman and Stabler then took Stabler’s friend home. After the friend left the car, officials said Stabler reached across from the passenger seat and attacked the woman by punching her in the face.

The victim told deputies that her head was also slammed against a vehicle.

Officials said the victim suffered four broken bones in her face and was taken to a hospital in Columbia to be treated.

“This was just brutal, the injuries this individual suffered,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. “There’s no reason on earth to treat another person like this.”

Stabler could face up to 20 years in prison if he is convicted. Bond was set for Stabler on Friday at $100,000.

Authorities are continuing to investigate this incident.
