First Alert Weather Story:

As we move through our Thursday night, bundle up! We’re expecting temperatures to drop into the mid to upper 20s by the time the kids are at the bus stop. Make sure they’re wearing a coat. We’ll see mostly clear skies.

High pressure will continue to control our weather for much of the day on Friday, giving way to mostly sunny skies. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Clouds will increase late Friday in advance of an area of low pressure that will change our weather in a big way this weekend.

Your weekend won’t be a washout. However, prepare for a cold rain for your weekend. In fact, Sunday is an Alert Day. Let’s talk about it.

We are tracking an area of low pressure that will move toward the Palmetto State from the northern Gulf Coast this weekend. As the system approaches, we’ll see a cold rain overspreading the Midlands this weekend, especially late Saturday into Sunday. Any wintry weather with this system will likely develop well to our north at this time. However, we’ll keep a close eye on the forecast. We can’t rule out some sleet or a brief period of freezing rain mixing in with the rain, especially for the Northern Midlands. But areas in the Upstate and in North Carolina will have a much better chance of seeing a wintry mix or accumulating snow with this system at this time.

So, expect mostly cloudy skies Saturday. Scattered showers are possible, mainly later in the day. We can’t rule out a little sleet or freezing rain mixing in for the Northern Midlands, especially late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

Sunday features a cold rain through the Midlands. We’ll watch to see if any sleet or freezing rain mixes in early in the day. Highs will be in the upper 40s. Make sure you check back in with our local forecast as we move through the next several days for any changes. We’ll alert you if there is a better likelihood of wintry weather here in the Midlands.

An isolated shower is not out of the question on your Monday. Otherwise, we’ll see partly sunny skies. Highs will be in the upper 40s to near 50. We’ll see highs back in the mid to upper 50s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Friday: Mostly Sunny to Partly Cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. Winds: E/NE 5 mph.

Saturday: Mostly Cloudy. Cold Rain/Showers, mainly late (30%). Highs in the mid to upper 40s. Winds: NE 5-10 mph.

First Alert Sunday: Mostly Cloudy. Cold Rain (80%). Highs in the upper 40s.
