COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - John and Katherine Hayden are on their way to Dallas to catch their Clemson Tigers in the Cotton Bowl.
They are some of the dozens of Clemson fans flying out of Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
The Haydens had originally booked a flight and hotel in Miami, Florida, for this weekend. They anticipated their Tigers would be playing in the Orange Bowl.
When it was announced the Tigers would be playing in Texas instead, they had to scramble to find tickets.
Their flight from Columbia takes them to Charlotte than Kansas City and then finally Dallas. They said they don’t care how they get there as long as they can catch the game.
The couple has been to playoff games in the past, including the 2017 National Championship in Tampa, Florida.
It's something you never want to miss they said, "Surrounding the game they typically have some entertainment and set up fan experiences. It’s a lot of fun. It’s not just the game. It’s the whole day surrounding the game.
Marlene Workman and her son Billy said they are excited to see Dallas. "We're from a cotton farm so we're excited about that."
The Grubb family had a direct flight to Dallas from CAE. They said when it was announced the Tigers were playing in Texas they jumped at the opportunity. “By 2:30 that afternoon we had tickets to the game, tickets for the flights and reservations for the hotel.”
All fans are hoping for a Clemson victory. Some are a little more nervous than others.
They said the suspension of Dexter Lawrence will be a big blow.
However, Jakki Wiseman said she isn't worried, "We have such a deep roster that we can put in another player who will do just as well. I hate he doesn’t get the opportunity to play. I’m confident we can pull up another player and still whoop Notre Dame."
The Cotton Bowl kicks off at 4 p.m. eastern time on Saturday, December 29th.
