FIRST ALERT TRAFFIC: Portion of Huger Street closed due to gas line break

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia police say they are blocking traffic between the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Huger Street in all directions following a gas line break.

An SCE&G spokesperson said:

SCE&G crews are working to repair a natural gas leak between the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Huger Street. SCE&G has shut off gas to the area. The incident occurred when a contractor doing excavation work in the area accidentally dug into an SCE&G 1 1/4-inch natural gas line located underground. Safety is our highest priority, and our crews are working as quickly as possible to safely restore service to the affected areas.
