ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) - An Orangeburg man has been charged following the robbery of a local business at gunpoint.
“This individual had a young woman and a small child with him while going into a tire shop to rob the owner,” he said. “This was a complete disregard for everyone around him that day.”
Tarik Thomas, 21, is being charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
Thomas was taken into custody on December 8th following a 911 call from the owner of Five Chop Road saying he was following the vehicle of the masked gunman who had just robbed him.
The victim reported that just moments before he had run out of his business yelling he had been robbed.
A witness then pointed them in the direction of the robbery suspect who had left in a Dodge vehicle.
The victim followed the suspect vehicle until they reached Sheppard Road where deputies caught up with them.
A passenger in the suspect's car fled the scene, according to several witnesses.
A woman, 20, and her eight-month-old child in the back of the Dodge were released.
During a hearing on December 11th bond for Thomas was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
The case is still under investigation.
