$5,000 cash reward offered for information in shooting death of Sumter man

SUMTER, SC (WIS) - Sumter Police are now offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that can help them make an arrest in connection to the shooting death of Chester “Rock” Stavis.

On November 21st Stavis, 31, was found shot to death in a waterway near Rast and Dicks streets after he was reported missing.

Police questioned Carter Wilson Strother, 70, after he was recently arrested by Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges.

Strother is the last known person to be seen with Stavis.

However, officers have determined he was not involved or had any knowledge of the shooting.
