CPD identifies burglary suspect

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Columbia Police Department investigators have identified a burglary suspect who has been wanted since Nov. for a home burglary. That crime led to a foot chase with the suspect and victim.

Investigators are searching for George Tyrone Jenkins, who is accused of stealing money while the victim slept. The incident happened on Waccamaw Avenue on Nov. 8.

The victim realized that the suspect was in his room and chased him about 2 miles from the crime scene while barefoot and only wearing basketball shorts, investigators said.

During the chase, the victim was on the phone with emergency dispatchers to notify CPD. No one was injured during the crime.

Investigators continue to determine if Jenkins is connected to similar crimes in the City of Columbia. Once located, he will be charged with Burglary – First Degree and Larceny.
